Do you like plants but find that gardening puts you under pressure? Do you fear when someone gives you a plant and tells you "must kill the extra branches and leaves within a week"? Are you envious of the green thumbs of your neighbors, friends and relatives while trying to make yourself only grow one kind of houseplant?

If it sounds like you, there is nothing to be embarrassed about. At first, many people are trying to keep plants alive, as long as they have time, practice and a little guidance, anyone can learn to do it. Just because it is not something that you naturally do, it does not mean you have to accept what you can never do.

Keeping potted plants alive is a learned skill, and you have no reason not to. To help you and start your plant care journey, we put this tutorial together, you need to know everything about how to care for potted plants. At the end of this, you are ready to put these skills into practice. So grab your gardening gloves and potting soil and get started.

1. Choose the Pots.

Make sure that there are one or more holes in the bottom of the container to allow water to flow out freely. Insufficient drainage can cause roots to drown and plants die prematurely.

Almost everything can be used as a container for plants, so which type of pot to choose depends on your style preferences and budget. If you prefer lightweight containers that are easy to move and can withstand the high temperatures of winter, look for resin, fiberglass and plastic. I even recommend you to choose fabric grow bags, which are not only light, but also good drainage, easy to store, etc. There are cotton grow bags, non woven grow bags, etc, in the market. If you are interested in which cloth grow bags, you can check it out on our website

2. Choose the Potting Mix.

Do not use the soil in the yard or garden. It can be full of weed seeds, insects and fungal diseases.

Purchase potting soil at your local garden center. It is a thin mixture of materials such as peat moss, stone, and organic matter that is often decomposed. If you want to grow succulents or cacti, use a mixture specially formulated for them.

To reduce plant maintenance, purchase potting mixes that contain time-release fertilizers and polymer crystals that retain moisture. If this type of mixture is not available, please buy a fertilizer that is released for a limited time (e.g. Cockadoodle Doo) and a can of water-retaining crystals (e.g. "soil moist") and add to the potting mix according to the package instructions.

3. Watering

Watering can be tricky, especially if you are not familiar with plant care. If you water too much, plants can easily drown. If you water too little, the plants will dry out and die. For happy and healthy plants, you need to find a delicate balance between these two extremes. Although some plants prefer to live in moist soil, most plants perform best when you let the soil dry out between watering.

To determine whether your plants need water, touch the soil, preferably near the edge of the custom planting bags. If the dirt becomes dry and brittle, it's time to water it. If you still feel damp, you may not need to water. After several weeks of practice, you should begin to understand when plants need water.

Of course, you can also judge whether your plants covet. If you find that the leaves have become dry, brown and dry, it means that your plants are in urgent need of water. However, I hope you can water the plants before reaching this point.

When watering the plants, water them first until the water starts to flow out of the holes in the bottom of the custom grow bag, or until the soil no longer absorbs water. If water starts to accumulate on soil that refuses to reabsorb, it's time to stop watering.

Since every plant and every plant species is different, it is difficult to determine exactly how often the plants should be watered. You can read specific plants for more information, but in general, it is best to let the plants tell you when you need water. Learn to read the soil and leaves of plants and recognize when water is needed.

4. Give Them Plenty of Light

Although each plant has different preferences for shade and sunlight, no plant will never grow under any light. If you put the plant in a closet, on a tall dark shelf or back to a dark corner, the effect will be poor.

Your plants need at least some sunlight to grow. Therefore, the window sill is a good place to put plants. However, if you do not have a large enough window sill, there are other options. Put them on the table or cart in front of the window, or in a sunny place.
